The Challenge
Pharmaceutical manufacturers face a growing need to protect sensitive drug formulations from moisture and oxygen exposure while meeting sustainability goals. Conventional high-barrier packaging often relies on multilayer or heavy materials, increasing production costs and carbon footprint.
LOG Pharma Primary Packaging R&D team was faced with the challenge of developing a lighter, more sustainable and cost effective solution without compromising protection.
The Solution
Leveraging Dow’s advanced pharma-grade HEALTH+ HDPE resins, LOG developed the barrier eco line, a new generation of high-performance bottles that combine strong barrier properties with material efficiency. The bottles are 30 percent lighter than standard HDPE containers yet deliver twice the moisture barrier protection.
This innovation ensures that sensitive formulations remain stable and effective throughout their shelf life, while supporting more efficient manufacturing and shipping.
The Result
The barrier eco line offers pharmaceutical companies a dual advantage: sustainability and cost efficiency. The reduced material use, and lower transportation weight translate into a smaller carbon footprint and operational savings. At the same time, the superior barrier performance safeguards product stability, reducing the risk of degradation and waste.
By leveraging LOG’s design expertise, the barrier eco line demonstrates how collaboration can drive meaningful progress in sustainable pharmaceutical packaging, proving that environmental responsibility, efficiency and product protection can go hand in hand.
