The Challenge
A pharmaceutical company approached LOG seeking a packaging solution for 10 mg antiplatelet tablets used in cardiovascular treatment.
The formulation was sensitive to both moisture and oxygen and required reliable protection throughout its shelf life. The packaging configuration called for 30 tablets in a 60 mL bottle.
The Solution
LOG developed a packaging solution based on a 60 mL MultiBlock® six-layer barrier bottle with a compatible closure and induction-seal liner, taking into consideration the complete packaging configuration, including a 1 gram silica gel desiccant and 10 cc oxygen absorber.
The bottle and closure system was designed to provide strong moisture and oxygen barrier performance while complementing the active components selected for the final packaging configuration.
The Process
Packaging trials evaluated bottle and closure compatibility, capping torque, seal integrity and induction-sealing parameters.
The finalized configuration was then evaluated under accelerated and long-term stability conditions, including 6-month and 1-year stability testing.
The Result
The complete packaging system met the predefined stability and quality acceptance criteria and was successfully transferred to routine production.
The project demonstrated that for sensitive pharmaceutical tablets, effective barrier protection depends on the complete packaging system — bottle, closure, liner, desiccant and sealing process working together.
